South of Staffin, on the A855 coastal road, a viewpoint allows a magnificent sight over the Mealt Falls and Kilt Rock. This is one of the top tourist locations on the Trotternish area. The distinct rocky cliffs were formed during the Jurassic era, with horizontal sills of volcanic material pushed between older strata. The desintegration of the cliffs originates fragments with a peculiat cylindrical shape. The Mealt Falls drain the Loch Mealt nearby, famous for fishing and bird-watching.
